221. Now that’s Art!

Today we received the painting of 1264, done by Ivan Berryman, and I have to say I’m blown away by it.

2016-02-16 Painting

It shows Bunnie in his only air-to-air action, diving on a Fokker Eindekker, with Flt Lt Savory climbing away in his Nieuport 11, Bluebird, after his attack.

It still needs framing, of course, but temporarily hung on the wall it looks pretty good. But no photograph can do justice to the original. The evening light makes you feel the slight chill in the air; he’s even managed to get the low sun to very subtly shine through the rudder! How he does that, I’ve no idea, but he’s a very talented man, and if you want to meet him, you can do worse than check out this video.

  1. Wow! Awesome! I’m always thinking of making a painting of aircraft or flying… but I hate the technical side with its angles and straight lines.
    I’ll carry on one day.
But this man is really brilliant.

  2. But the original is something else again. Everyone that sees it is blown away by it.
